'Traditional Food in a Casual Atmosphere' is the foundation upon which Uncle Chan's Chinese Restaurant prides itself. We have a proud history spanning 30 years in Bundaberg, where more than half has been spent serving gluten free food.
In 2003, the owner's sons were diagnosed with coeliac disease, as well as being allergic to a wide range of foods, including dairy and MSG (monosodium glutamate). This formed the basis for Uncle Chan's to offer a wide range of gluten free food.
Since our specialty of Chinese food comes from Canton Province and Hong Kong, the main ethos of Cantonese Chinese Cuisine is to focus and build on the natural flavour of the ingredients. Thus we don't rely as heavily on sauces and seasonings, compared to other styles of Chinese food, which usually containe gluten, dairy, peanuts, MSG and so on.
We have an extensive range of meals to choose from on our separate gluten free menu, and most dishes can easily be modified to suit your taste and/or requirements. A no added gluten section on the All You Can Eat Smorgasbord is also available for those who are only gluten intolerant (i.e. not severely coeliac). You can choose to dine in, take away or even have it delivered to your home!
Uncle Chan's features a casual atmosphere which is derived from our philosophy. In Chinese Culture, if a senior that you know is regarded as a very close friend, then you can refer to them as your 'uncle' or 'aunt', signifying that friendship. So when you come to us, we hope you're coming into the Uncle Chan's family home to enjoy a good meal!
