Finally, I also investigated DARE cafe in The Rocks and I was disappointed.  The service was so surly that I didn’t actually stay to eat.  There's no inside seating and the atmosphere, which I imagine would be lovely on the weekend was kinda dingy and uninviting on a wet Thursday morning.  That said, the GF berry and coconut slice that I took away was actually quite moist and light, which can be novel for GF baked goods.  So I think I'll try them again next time I'm in Sydney for a sunny Saturday. I hope this helps people.

If you know of any other good GF friendly eateries in Sydney please feel free to post about them here.   Smiley

I had a lovely prosciutto and bocconcini salad at Jet Bar/Café in the QVB.  Whilst they don’t have a large range of GF options, the staff were friendly and helped me to find something appropriate and yummy. (www.QVB.com.au)

I also ordered fantastic GF pizza from Zachary's of Kings Cross.  I had it delivered by Cuisine Courier, so I can't tell you about the atmosphere in the restaurant, but the pizza was awesome, and it was so good to be able to get simple GF food delivered to my hotel. Apparently, if you’re eating in they are open until 3am on Friday and Saturday. (Zachary’s - http://www.zacharyssydney.com.au/) (Cuisine Courier - www.cuisinecourier.com.au/)

I spent the week in Sydney, and after having very little luck with GF eating the last time I was there I did some research before I left this time and I just wanted to share some of my observations for anyone else journeying to Sydney in the near future.

I had lunch at Bird Cow Fish in Surrey Hills and besides the food being delicious, the staff were fantastic and really helpful brining me an edited menu to indicate which meals were GF.  I had the New Zealand Salmon and it was awesome! (http://www.birdcowfish.com.au/)

I also had a quick take away lunch at Guzman y Gomez, in Newtown.  It's a take-away kind of Mexican canteena, and the food was really yummy.  They have Corn Tortillas for tacos, nachos and GF options for their burritos.  There's also a few other locations, including in the CBD. I have found a great place to eat in Parramatta that serves the best gluten free pizza. Grin
Restauarant 3One7 - 317 Church Street Parramatta, NSW, has a great gluten free menu. The ceasar salad (with g/free croutons), the Risotto and the great pizzas, are fantastic. The staff are friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is always fun. It's a very busy restaurant so try to book if you can.

Hi kate
I am in melb & my 7 yo has just been diagnosed with Coeliac disease so we are on that same learning curve.  We have found on the whole that kids menus are the most difficult things to deal with so have found a number of gf pizza options.  Not sure if your son will eat Indian - great option if he will - generally primarily gf.  We have found a couple of Chinese restaurants that have quite a lot of gf options and some thai places are quite good - again may or may not work for you.

Cheers
Lorraine

Well, my niece has been and gone (I can't believe how 3 weeks passes like that! We had lots of outings, 2 big Christmas feasts and New Year's Eve picnic to watch the Sydney fireworks and I'm so happy to say that she left happy with only one bad food day in the first week - they ate at a Chinese restaurant that said they could take care of her needs  Sad
We've discovered a gourmet pizza place in Parramatta, Church St (?)... eat street area. It advertised gluten free pizzas were available and after talking to the staff they really sounded on the ball.
The taste verdict: "Excellent!" by our GF girl and non-GF dad.
Also Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club's main restaurant (Chinese) actually has a GF menu available with about 20 items listed. Just ask for it and make sure that when you order you say GF after each item. Our whole table picked exclusively from this menu to avoid any mix-up. Niece was very pleasantly surprised and impressed (more to tell mum back in NZ!!). Only thing though... I'll have to mention to the chef that Tamari sauce is a good (though expensive) version of soy sauce... or tell him about the other products mentioned here (Thanks for that Janet!) cause I have to say, they were very bland to me - but at least there was variety of dishes on the table to share Grin And maybe we'll just travel with a little bottle of GF sauce... Cool
Another discovery for us was that the Home Ice-cream range has a lot of GF ice-creams and they are shown clearly on their leaflet menus.
I'll add more discoveries later - with real business names and addresses if I can, too. And thanks, Janet, I'll put it in the "Help Us" section too.
ciao!
