One of the owners has coeliac disease, so the restaurant is fully conversant with gluten free food preparation. Dishes are made from scratch, and prepared fresh every day. Serving authentic Mexican food, the food is not cheesy or greasy, and there are vegetarian and vegan dishes available. The food is fantastic, and includes authentic Mexican dishes not commonly served in Australia. There's even a traditional soup (Pozole), available only on the weekend. The desserts are all gluten free, including the popular Mexican Cheesecake, made to a family recipe. Maiz and Mezcal's decor is steeped in family memories and tradition. Every item on display, including sculptures, is like a step back down Mexican memory lane, oozing heartfelt happiness and special times.
